728 plus for seniors? The new proposal caused a storm
Almost PLN 728 – this is how much seniors could gain if the proposal presented by Przemysław Czarnek comes into force. The idea is not enthusiastic among experts.
The candidate for prime minister from Law and Justice, Przemysław Czarnek, presented the first three points of his 21 election demands on Sunday in Kalisz. One of them concerns changes for pensioners earning extra money. — Silver work, i.e. exemption from personal income tax and exemption from pension and disability pension contributions, remuneration of retirees up to PLN 2,500 net. PLN 2,500 net for the retiree without any additional contributions and taxes – Czarnek announced.
The politician argues that exemption from PIT and pension contributions would be beneficial not only to working seniors, but also to employers who would be more willing to employ retired people.
728 plus for seniors? Experts skeptical
The details of the proposal are not known, but it seems that it would benefit professionally active retirees. What the state deducts in contributions and tax could increase their net payment, but only up to PLN 2,500 net.
Calculations by Dr. Antoni Kolek from the Kozminski University, quoted by “Fakt”, show that currently a retiree working for the minimum wage (from January it is PLN 4,806 gross) receives PLN 3,305 and PLN 0.85 on hand. The relief proposed by the PiS candidate for prime minister could mean that the net salary will increase to PLN 4,033 and PLN 75, i.e. by PLN 727 and PLN 90. monthly.
The calculation presented by the expert assumes that the exemption would apply not only to ZUS contributions, but also to health insurance contributions. The daily points out that Czarnek’s proposal has a “catch” that the politician does not mention. If seniors pay lower ZUS contributions, they will benefit less from the benefit conversion.
Dr. Marcin Wojewódka, an expert at the Pension Institute, is critical of the PiS candidate’s proposal. In his opinion, this is an invitation to “use your pension rights as early as possible.”
– Because the sooner I retire, the sooner I will be able to not pay taxes. While I understand the attractiveness of such a solution from the individual point of view, it is not only in direct contradiction to what the previous PiS government of Mateusz Morawiecki committed to in the National Reconstruction Plan, i.e. raising the effective retirement age – says Dr. Wojewódka to “Fakt”.
The expert points out that there will also be a reduction in state revenues, which will mean the need to find funds in the pockets of other taxpayers.
