500 plus for marriages is getting closer! The Senate made a decision

The Senate Commission of Petition approved the continuation of work on introducing a benefit for marriages with 50 years of experience. Is the government to prevent this idea?

What are the assumptions of the new benefit?
The idea of introducing financial support for long -term marriages appeared as a result of a civic petition submitted by Eugeniusz Szymala. Its content suggested that the spouses celebrate Golden Festivities They could count on a special benefit. The project provides for different amounts depending on the length of the internship:

Unconvinced government – doubts around the project
Despite the support of the Senate Commission, the government has doubts as to the legitimacy of this benefit. The Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy pointed out that in his opinion the proposal does not fit into the catalog of family benefitswhich mainly concern parents raising children.
During the Senate deliberations, the representative of the ministry emphasized that the existing regulations do not provide for additional support for long -term marriages. In the opinion of the ministry, the priority is benefits related to parenting and childcare, not support for the elderly in many years of relationships.
The Senate wants to act – what next with the project?
Although the government’s position is not favorable, the Senate Commission of Petitions decided to continue working on the project. According to the chairman of the commission, Robert Mamątów, the introduction of such a benefit would be a form of appreciating couples who built their marriage and family for decades.
Senators pay attention to the growing number of divorces and a decrease in the number of newly concluded marriages. In their opinion, rewarding long -term relationships can be a positive signal for society.
The next step will be the development of a specific bill by the Senate Legislative Office. At the same time, the Commission wants to consult the Ministry of Finance regarding budget possibilities for such a benefit.
Does 500 plus for spouses have a chance to come into force?
The debate on the introduction of the benefit raises mixed opinions. Supporters emphasize that the state should appreciate marriages that have been in a relationship for decades, and symbolic prizes can be an additional incentive to build stable relationships.
On the other hand, there are skeptical voices, indicating that the family benefits system should focus on supporting families raising children, and not rewarding couples for long -term life.
