The plane with 351 passengers on board landed in front of the designated area and damaged the airport lighting. Another incident occurred there two days earlier.
Just two days after the dramatic incident during the take-off of a Boeing 787-9 in Munich, a dangerous incident involving a plane from another airline occurred at the same airport.
The Lufthansa A380 aircraft, registration number D-AIML, arrived at the German airport from San Francisco after an 11-hour flight. The machine landed before the threshold of the runway, which resulted in damage to the airport infrastructure.

“We confirm that on Monday evening at Munich Airport, the runway lighting near the runway threshold was damaged during the landing of an Airbus A380-800. The aircraft arrived from San Francisco with 351 passengers on board. The A380 then arrived at its position and all passengers disembarked normally,” an airline spokesman said.
Two days ago, a Vietnam Airlines flight had trouble accelerating while taking off from Munich before taking off. “The coincidence in time of these two events has attracted public attention, although there is currently no evidence to link their causes,” writes Simple Flying.
The A380’s wingspan and landing area require carefully controlled runway operations. Initial reports do not indicate that the aircraft veered off the paved road or suffered significant structural damage. The Federal Office for Aircraft Accidents Investigation (BFU) is investigating the case. The flight recorder has been secured. Investigators will compare the damage to the lights with the plane’s recorded position, altitude and speed to recreate the final stage of the approach.
Vietnam Airlines is one step away from disaster
Two days earlier, on Sunday, August 15, a Vietnam Airlines Boeing Dreamliner had problems with acceleration. The machine used almost the entire 4 km long runway. The crew managed to get airborne, but the tail hit the ground. Also in this case, the lights on the runway were damaged. The plane returned to Munich airport. Several tires burst during the emergency landing, but no one was injured.
