Internet shopping has become everyday life for about 80 percent. Polish network users. Unfortunately, along with the dynamic development of e-commerce, the phenomenon of false opinions that can mislead consumers and disturb the honest competition between companies.

The Trustmate.io study shows that almost 40 percent respondents noticed suspicious reviews, and every fourth could not clearly assess their authenticity. This is the result of increasingly advanced manipulation methods used by dishonest entities.

Who most often sees false opinions?

The data show that men more often than women see false reviews. A similar relationship concerns income – people with higher earnings are more aware of this phenomenon, but also more often have difficulty in its unequivocal recognition. In turn, people with higher education most often declare that they have met with inauthentic opinions.

False reviews and place of residence and age

The phenomenon of false opinions is noticeable in both small towns and large cities, although the highest percentage of people declaring contact with them occurs in metropolises over 500,000. residents. Young people (18-34 years) most often declare contact with inactic reviews, while older Internet users more often choose the answer “rather not” or “definitely not”.

How to defend yourself against false opinions?

Experts advise to use platforms offering verification of comments and authentic reviews. It is also worth paying attention to the language style, dates of adding opinions and their repetition. Critical thinking and caution when shopping online can protect us from slip -up and unnecessary losses.

The study was carried out on behalf of Trustmate.io by the Uce Research research company in III 2025, using a representative rehearsal of 1008 respondents representing Polish society, the CAWI method.
