20 such machines can secure the Polish sky. The Eurofighter consortium reveals its cards
The current management of the Ministry of National Defense maintains the declaration regarding the purchase of 32 air superiority fighters, which are to secure the upper shelf of the airspace – above 13,000 meters. Three contractors from Europe and the United States are competing for the order.
In the summer of this year, a group of Polish journalists, including an emissary of “Wprost”, were invited by the Leonardo concern to visit plants located near Turin, Italy. The aim of the visit was to learn about the capabilities of the Eurofighter multi-role combat aircraft, which are promoted in Poland as a response to the needs of the Air Force.
The marketing activities of the Eurofighter GmbH consortium should not be surprising. Despite last year’s change of authorities in Poland, the current management of the Ministry of National Defense maintains the declaration regarding the purchase of 32 air superiority fighters, which are to secure the upper shelf of the airspace – above 13,000 meters, and therefore the above-mentioned effective possibilities of using the F-16C/D Jastrząb or FA-50 Fighting Eagle. Three contractors from Europe and the United States are competing for the above order.
As part of the market division, Leonardo is responsible for the activities of the European consortium in Poland. At the same time, the above entity is an important element of the entire program – the production of wings and rear fuselage sections for all delivered Eurofighters is located in Turin.
One of the most popular 4th generation multi-role combat aircraft in the world
At the time of the visit, construction was underway on sections for machines ordered in recent years by Spain and the Federal Republic of Germany. More production contracts will be signed soon – the authorities of Italy and the Federal Republic of Germany unanimously announced the continuation of aircraft orders for their own needs. In addition, we should not forget about export markets where Eurofighters are intensively promoted. Apart from Poland, we can mention Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Colombia and Peru.
So far, 681 aircraft have been ordered, of which over 550 have been delivered. This makes it currently one of the most popular 4th generation multi-role combat aircraft in the world.
This is also an important argument for Poland.
