19-year-old Polish woman wanted to earn money in Egypt to study. Now her family has to save up for her treatment
After passing her final exams, Paulina went to Egypt to earn money for her studies. Unfortunately, she suffered very serious injuries in an accident there. Now she is fighting for her life, and the costs of her treatment are rising.
19-year-old Paulina Kowalska graduated from high school this year in a fitness and dietetics class, and also did a personal trainer course. She wanted to study physiotherapy at the Academy of Physical Education. When she managed to find a job as an animator at the Utopia Beach Resort in Marsa Alam, she was happy to have the opportunity to fulfill her dreams.
Accident in Egypt. Polish woman in serious condition
Unfortunately, on Friday, August 10, the girl was involved in a terrible accident. She and her friend were in a taxi that collided with a bus. The driver of their vehicle died on the spot, while the passengers of the taxi ended up in Port Ghalib Hospital in critical condition.
The Polish woman is currently in a pharmacological coma. She arrived at the hospital unconscious. She has multiple injuries and fractures: including a deep, lacerated wound to the left thigh with muscle damage, a deep wound to the right thigh, a lacerated wound to the lip extending to the cheek, numerous abrasions all over the body, deformation and swelling of the elbow, bilateral lung contusion and pneumothorax, other internal injuries.
Money problems and collection for Paulina
Egyptian doctors took up the fight for Paulina’s life. However, on the second day of treatment, the hospital demanded funds for her treatment. Employee insurance did not cover accidents during private time. A person close to Paulina was outraged that the hospital allegedly postponed a blood transfusion for 20 hours, demanding money. It also refused to accept blood from the girl’s friends. In the end, the transfusion was performed, but no one was given information about the girl’s health, nor was anyone allowed to see her.
The 19-year-old’s family has already reached Egypt and from Cairo they got to Marsa Alam with the help of a Polish woman and her Egyptian husband. Paulina is breathing on a respirator. Her family has been asked to pay 20 thousand euros and further funds for treatment. On the first day of the fundraiser, 80 thousand zlotys were collected, but it is still not enough. The family is thinking about bringing the teenager to Poland, but this would cost over 100 thousand zlotys. It is also not known whether Paulina’s condition will allow it.
