14. Pension. Some seniors won’t get a penny

The 14th pension is an additional annual cash benefit for retirees and pensioners that was introduced in 2021. Unlike the 13th pension, the amount of the “fourteenth” varies, and some seniors will not receive any money at all.
Soon, 1,780.96 PLN gross will be transferred to the accounts of pensioners and retirees – this is the amount of this year’s “fourteenth pension”. Its amount corresponds to the minimum pension in Poland. Not all seniors will receive the fourteenth pension in full.
Who is entitled to the 14th pension?
The fourteenth pension is paid to persons who are entitled to one of the following benefits:
-
pensions and annuities in the general system
-
bridging pensions
-
pre-retirement benefits and allowances
-
pensions, social pensions
-
agricultural pension
-
agricultural pension due to incapacity for work
-
survivors’ pension
-
periodic agricultural pension
-
supplementary parental benefit.
When is the 14th pension paid?
Pensions are usually paid out by the Social Insurance Institution on set dates: 1st, 5th, 6th, 10th, 15th, 20th and 25th of each month. However, if the payment falls on a weekend or a non-working day, ZUS orders the payment earlier. In August, 10th and 25th August fall on weekends, so the money will be transferred to the accounts of those entitled earlier (8th and 24th August).
How much will the 14th pension be?
The full benefit of PLN 1,780.96 gross (PLN 1,492.67 net) will be received by people whose pension does not exceed PLN 2,900 gross. The benefit will be gradually reduced for people receiving higher pensions, and the minimum amount of the fourteenth pension must be at least PLN 50 to be paid.
“Around 8.9 million pensioners and retirees will receive the fourteenth benefit. Of these, 6.4 million will receive the full amount, while 2.5 million will be entitled to a lower payment,” the Chancellery of the Prime Minister informed.
The Act allows the government to set the amount of the 14th pension. The Council of Ministers has the right, through a regulation, to set the amount of the benefit higher than the lowest pension, taking into account the current economic situation and public finances. This year, the fourteenth pension will be paid in the minimum amount. Last year it amounted to PLN 2,650 gross. Perhaps the fact that it was an election year was irrelevant.
14. pension paid ex officio
The additional benefit is always paid ex officio, which means that you do not need to submit any application in this matter. 14. the pension will be subject to taxation and contributions on general principles, regardless of whether it is paid in conjunction with a taxable or tax-exempt benefit. Importantly, no deductions or enforcement will be made from the amount of the next additional annual cash benefit.
