13. and 14. A pension to liquidate? An important appeal has appeared

Grzegorz Kołodko

You should abandon the payment of 13 and 14. Pensions, and in family benefits 800+ use the income criterion – believes the former finance minister prof. Grzegorz Kołodko. In his opinion, one should also return to the gradual increase in retirement age.

Recently, the interview, which was given to the Money.pl website, economist Ludwik Kotecki has been widely echoed. According to a member of the Monetary Policy Council (RPP), Poland should consider the introduction of war tax and the temporary suspension of some social benefits. When asked if it is possible to limit programs such as “grandmother”, the widow or 800 plus, Kotecki replied: – Different things should be administered temporarily. The situation is done not very pleasant – agencies change ratings, and various dangerous things fly above their heads. Maybe it’s time for the whole Sejm to make serious political decisions? “

Bold changes in popular social benefits are also postulated by prof. Grzegorz Kołodko. The Minister of Finance in 1994-1997, and then 2002-2003 in a comment for Money.pl indicates that the budget deficit “quickly goes to a catastrophic level of 7 % of GDP”. In his opinion, “the state may not be able to finance it in a meaningful way, sinking into a dangerously growing public debt, whose service costs more and more.” Kołodko indicates that it is a cost of about PLN 100 billion a year. In this situation, the imperative is a serious reduction of the deficit.

When consolidating public finances, you must stop valorizing social benefits. Only pensions should be an exception. You should abandon the payment of 13 and 14. Pensions, and in 800+ family benefits use the income criterion – appeals to the former finance minister.

Kołodko also believes that you should return to the process of gradual raising of retirement age. We would like to remind you that the reform in this area was started by the government of Donald Tusk in 2012. Five years later, the government of Law and Justice reversed her.

A former minister with a limitation of military expenditure

Interestingly, the former head of the Ministry of Finance postulates the reduction of not only social expenditure, but also military expenses. – Contrary to appearances, the easiest way to make appropriate savings by cutting military expenses. The easiest way, because their rationalization does not threaten our security, and in addition – unlike many treatments in the sphere of social transfers – does not require statutory changes. The Act on expenditure on national defense in an amount of not less than 3 percent applies. GDP – emphasizes Kołodko.

The former minister explains that “security is ensured through appropriate foreign policy and effective diplomacy, and not – by arguing to the teeth.”
